Girls Coding Project for School Girls launched
The BD Girls Coding Project has been jointly launched by the Educational Charitable and Humanitarian Organization (Eco Bangladesh) and Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN) to teach computer programming to high school girls. The inauguration of the project was announced at BASIS Auditorium in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
Dr. Mohammad Kaikobad, eminent academician and professor at BRAC University was present as a guest at the opening ceremony. Air Vice Marshal Md. Kamrul Islam, Air Officer Commander of Base Bashar, Bangladesh Air Force was present at the inaugural program. Amatur Rashid, Executive Director, Educational Charitable Humanitarian Organization - Eco BD and Russell T. Ahmed, President of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) were also present.
Professor Mohammad Kaikobad in his speech thanked the partners involved in the project. "Girls are neglected all over the world," she said. They are deprived of opportunities. The girls of our country have proved that if given the opportunity, they can show their skills in technology based work as well. In order to build a digital Bangladesh, the country's information technology sector must be taken forward.
Russell T. Ahmed, newly elected President of BASIS, thanked Eco Bangladesh and BDOSN for involving BASIS in this project. In order to involve women entrepreneurs in BASIS technology, girls need to be taught coding from school level. Girls need to come forward in the workplace through family education.
In this project, school girls will be introduced to programming to make it easier for students to learn programming in the classroom. BDOSN will organize programming competitions and programming camps with the students with the funding of Eco Bangladesh.
The project aims to make schoolgirls aware of programming and make them fit for future work in science and technology. Workshops, camps and competitions will be organized to teach programming to high school girls.
President of Bangladesh Computer Society Md. Shahid-ul-Munir, General Secretary of Bangladesh Women in Technology Rezwana Khan, General Secretary of Internet Society-Bangladesh Chapter Md. Kawshar Uddin, General Secretary of BDOSN Munir Hasan and many others were also present on the occasion.
Eco-USA President Alia Shafqat and BDOSN President Prof. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal greeted in a video message at the event. The event was hosted by Kaniz Fatema, CEO of Bangladesh Open Source Network.
BD Girls Coding Project is organized by Educational Charitable and Humanitarian Organization (Eco Bangladesh) and Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN) under the auspices of the Educational Charitable and Humanitarian Organization (Eco USA) with the overall collaboration from Bangladesh Computer Council, Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), Bangladesh Computer Society, Bangladesh Women in Technology and Internet Society-Bangladesh Chapter.
